Imaginative Figure Drawing
These are some sketches from my general, no reference, just a thin
sharpie pen, my sketch book, and my head. I still need to develop
my anatomy skill even further, I'm aiming for a realistic neoclassical
looking figures with more fluidity. I leave you guys with the drawings
for now, they'll do the rest of the talking, hopefully.

Lgemat (Sweet Dough)
A geometric translation of "Lgemat" which is an Kuwaiti type
of pastry that consist of fried dough glazed with melted sweet syrup.
For the colorful cups, instead of placing random colors, decided to
use a primary color with its complimentary. Expect the row in the far
right where I employed purple due to the color of the dough.

Ocean: Redefined
One of the projects that I recently completed for one of my classes. Basically, a word was given to me by the professor and I had to create my own font and then incorporate symbols into the word "ocean". Then, design a poster to fit the quote in it. After that, I had to create multiple color schemes by using the standard color strategies which was my favorite part in the project.
I really wanted to go for a more complex design. I wanted the sea to be red rather than blue, I wanted to have a meaning, a strong concept behind this project but unfortunately due to the time restrains, I had to go for plan B which is whats below.

Poster Design: The Hindenburg Disaster
Instead of having a clean vector edges, I decided to embrace the semi-sketchy mood all over the design. Also, you'll notice that there is a "3" in Hindenburg, and "36" is the number of deaths in the Hindenburg Disaster.
Vandeline Vandalize
Story:
In the late 17th
century in France. Two courtiers, one of them had a son (23 years old) and the
other had a daughter (18 years old). They arranged their marriage and both of
daughter and son fell in love together, but before the wedding, she found out
that he was cheating on her with one of the maids so she pretended that nothing
happened.
After the wedding
at night, she poisoned him with half a bottle of Chateau Margaux. So, he
uncontrollably started to vomit everywhere and she kept moving with him,
keeping her face on his without any emotions, until he dies. Instantly, she cleans him up and put him in
bed and slept beside him. She woke up in the morning screaming, and after couple
of days they made his funeral. After that, she goes at night, dug his grave,
open his chest, and took out his heart. She went back to her room and cut the
heart open, put the wedding ring inside and then sewed it up. Then, she went
back to the cemetery and returned his heart in his chest and drank the other
half of the wine bottle, lay against his body and kissed him with innocent
tears and closed the coffin. The end.
About:
The scene that is
depicted in this drawing is sewing the heart. Also, Instead of having a flat
drawing I decided to make a table and life size woman (Vandeline). I used a real
needle and thread to give more credibility and I exaggerated the size for more drama. Made in a week, I have the redbull just for a size comparison and to drink it after the hard work.
Materials:
18 Canson paper
A large piece of
foam board
Oil pastels
Soft pastels
Colored pencils
Acrylic paint
Needle and thread

AlQaraien Cargo
The Thumb line sketch (left) & The final logo (right) |
Designed this logo to a Cargo Company obviously called "AlQaraien Cargo" which is located in the United Arab Emirates. It does shipping world wide using ships. So what I did is that I merged the "Q" with a simplified ship, I tried to keep it as simple as possible to be easily read. Also, using dark settle blue with gentle tone of red was intense, so I applied the light gray to the "Q" to hold everything together and lower that intensity and it also helps to focus the attention on the text.

The Decay of a Roar

Challenges:
One of the main challenges that I had to deal with is time restriction. Building a life size lion head is really challenging in six days where there is no room for mistakes. Thats why, I had to undergo through lots of studies for the anatomical and muscular structure of a lion head by doing many sketches and determining measurements for individual parts of the structure. Being dedicated to a project comes with plenty of sacrifices. Missing up my diet and getting ten hours of sleep in three days are two of the many sacrifices that I had to make for completing this project.
Materials:
Before I actually started this concept, I was exploring materials like plastic, strings, and water to incorporate them with pine cones which were the star of the show. Then after I decided to build a lion head, the pine cones became a secondary ingredient, resembling the lion's hair. But they also played a big role in creating contrast with the air-drying clay which make them act as a complementary medium. Furthermore, the armature wires (three sizes different in thickness) is the main structure that holds the clay and the pine cones together, a wire net also was used to avoid using a lot of clay that will make the sculpture really heavy. As I started working with the sculpture I had to experiment a lot with the materials and push them to their limits.
Note: A tribute to my older brother, who had a terrible car accident three weeks ago. So by doing this project in less than week, I feel that I've channeled his endurance and suffering through me to the project, stating that he is a lion and he'll get through the recovery in no time.

Symbolism:
The overall concept which is the contrast between the smooth and hard (the red intense scene) is inspired by the flower plant itself. When you look at the cotton flower, you will notice that the top of it is really soft and the bottom which holds the soft cotton is really tough, dry and hard. Also, when the farmer approach the clohanel conttous you'll see bugs running away, these bugs are called Cotton Harlequin Bug which are an actual bugs that feeds on the cotton leaves. So when the farmer approaches the cotton plant, these bugs run away which means that the farmer fertilizes the plant and there is also a scene where he poor water to it and that is showing how the plant manipulate its subject for its own interests.
Characters:
The farmer: a really vulnerable, innocent, secretive personality that have a strong determinations to get what he aims for.
The Cotton Plant (Clohanel Conttous): a human-cotton hybrid that is generous and soft, yet vicious and fierce. Also, it provides the magical cotton to the farmer in exchange for water and protection from insects.
